The sweetness after the rain

After surviving a week of sickness, specifically buckets and cleaning, we are all better and no longer needed the buckets!  YEAH!    It was time for mommy to head back to the craft table and make a gift for my DD's friend.  I left it blank on the inside so the recipient can do as she desires with it.
This was made using the QuicKutz template called peppermint, part of the Santa'a workshop set.

Handmade album

My neighbour has blessed me with a variety of papers that I use for my childrens art work and various cutting projects.  My three year old likes to cut with mommy's fiskar "fancy edge" scissors.  So you can imagine how many pieces of paper I go through.

Today while looking for a project I came up with the idea to make an album.  I used glossy paper for the cover and base of the interior pages.  Then I layered the interior pages with paper.

Edges were punched for binding but I do not have a binder so I "sewed" the pages with ribbon and then tied each bind.

The album did me proud as it lays flat when finished the construction phase.

"Nice" comments my husband, "now what are you going to put in it?"  Well if I knew that I would have completed that part too.  He doesn't understand that these creative things take time.  Sometimes more time then I have in a day!

The Love of Family

I have been eyeing this brown daisy paper for weeks and wondering what to do with it.  As I started colouring my Magnolia brother and sister stamp I decided to turn it into a card.  Not certain if I will send it to my brother or not, but he was certainly in my thoughts and prayers as I made this card.

Directionally challenged

How does one decide which direction to have their card open?  Do you always have your card open from right to left?  Are there certain designs which lend themselves to a specific orientation?  Of course I am certain that being a leftie has nothing to do with my direction challenges...or does it... LOL!

Rosettes Take 2

So after my last post I found a Make the Cut file for my Cricut and cut it to see what it would look like.  Big difference!  Now the cutting file has scoring marks so folding it was much easier.  Also the folds were much closer together.  I finished my sample and then added a touch of sepia ink on edges and button.  I love the results and look forward to using this technique on my upcoming projects.

Learning Rosettes

I enjoy learning new techniques.  Today I tried the rosette.  I found it incredibly easy!  First I tried an 1x 11 inch piece of regular paper folded into an accordian fold.  I found this attempt terribly difficult to get into the rosette shape.  So next I ventured to cardstock 1x12 inch.  This 2nd attempt was much easier as the cardstock is sturdier.
Picture below is my second attempt.  I embellished the middle with a button.

I know there is a die on the market to cut this for you or an online cutting file is also available.  Although based on my experience today neither of those is really necessary.  Perhaps easier but not a HAVE TO HAVE item.  Ladybug.

Manly Card

Coming up with a card idea that would be suitable to give a man can be difficult.  Do you simply give the "same" card every one else is getting complete with glitter and shine?  I decided to try this based on a challenge to see if I could come with a card without the girly glitter and glam.  It does have some glitter on the stars and heart using my Copic Spica pens but I think it is subtle.

What a fabulous learning time with my markers!  Gosh I have sooooo much to learn and practice.  I enjoyed getting to meet others who also share a love of paper crafting.
